17-18/04/04 In order to relax before the preparation of the olympics, I went snowboarding in the STUBAITAL in Austria. My 55kg-teammate Sabrina Lotz, her brother Thorsten and myself spent two beautiful days in the snow.
12/04/04 I won the SILVER medal at this years European championships in Haparanda/SWE.
This was my first international medal since my bronce medal at worlds 2000.
I won my first match versus young Angelique Vaissie from France 7:1. My second oppent, the belorussian Volha Khilko was very strong (she also qualified for Athens). I won 2:0 after overtime, by winning both clinches. I also managed to win both clinches in my halffinal match versus Ludmilla Golovchenko from Ukraine and won 3:0. Ludmilla placed 4th at last year's worlds and is qualified for the olympics as well.

I didn't manage to win in the final versus Alena Kartakhova (1.WC'03 -59kg, 5.WC'03 -63kg) from Russia, but It was the first time I wrestled her and I'm very optimistic that I will be able to beat her in summer.

Brigitte Wagner from Hallbergmoos won also a silver medal (48kg). She lost in the pool and in the final versus the ukrainian world champion Irina Melnik.
Anita Schätzle (72kg), Steffi Stüber (59kg) and Max Schwindt (74kg) finished 4th.

10/04/04 I wish all my friends and visitors of my website peaceful easter holidays.
09/04/04 Natascha Ballas, a sucessful youth wrestler of our club, celebrated her 16th birthday today. I wish her all the best for this years competition!

02/04/04 Our regional team for this years Olympics "NRW-Team Athen 2004" was presented to the public at an event called "SPORT trifft KULTUR" (sports meet culture) in our regional capital Düsseldorf.
01/04/04 Patrick La Greca from our club celebrates his 18th birthday today. Congratulations!
29/03/04 Our club, the AC Ückerath, was as sucessful as last year and won six medals at the German championships 2004.
German champions: Stéphanie Groß (63 kg, seniors) and Lisa Hug (70 kg, cadets).
Silver medalists:Ramona Ballas (49 kg, cadets) and Ivonne Ewert (65 kg, cadets).

These three girls are member of our training group. They come from different clubs to train with us. Nadine van Berkum (Köln-Ehrenfeld) at -34kg and Karolin Bettge (Aachen-Walheim) at -49kg won gold, Aline Focken (Krefeld) won a bronce medal at -40kg.

Just 5 days after the qualifier in Madrid, I was really tired and had some problems especially in my halffinal match, but I managed to win my 10th german championships (senior level).

26-28/03/04 German championships for women and female youth in Ladenburg/Nordbaden.
22/03/04 I did it!!!!
I earned my olympic spot by winning the silver medal at the 2.olympic qualifier in Madrid/ESP and will represent my country at the OLYMPIC GAMES in Athens.

After winning my pool matches versus wrestlers from Spain and Mongolia, I had to wrestle my friend Niki Hartmann from Austria in the quarter final.
I won this match with 3:2 points. It was much easier to win the halffinal versus Sabrina Esposito from Italy. My final 3:5 loss versus Lise Legrand wasn't really important at this moment.

It's very sad that such outstanding wrestlers which dominated women's wrestling in the last 10 years like Nikola Hartmann and the two norwegian Gudrun Hoie (knee injury in Madrid) and Lene Aanes (shoulder injury in Tunis) will not be able to participate at the first Olympic games in women's wrestling.

19-21/03/04 2. olympic qualifing tournament in Madrid/ESP. The german girls Christina Oertli (-55kg) and Stephanie Groß (-63kg) are taken care of by the coaches Jürgen Scheibe and Karl-Heinz Helbing, our doctor Hans Gstöttner and the physiotherapist "Fritz" Trageser.
14/03/04 The girls of my club were sucessful at this years Fila-tournament "Klippan Lady Open" in Sweden. Natascha Ballas (56kg) won a silver medal, Ivonne Ewert (65kg) bronce and Lisa Hug (70kg) and Jenny Brück (-52kg) placed 4th.
12-14/03/04 German championships in men's freestyle wrestling in Kleinostheim. My brother Dominik will participate in the -74kg-category.
11-14/03/04 "Klippan Lady Open".
Good luck to Jenny Brück (52kg), Natascha Ballas (56kg), Franziska Liebscher (59kg), Ivonne Ewert (65kg) and Lisa Hug (70kg) from my club.
08/03/04 I finished at the 4th place at the 1. Qualifying tournament in TUNIS

I won my first two matches versus girls of Hungary and Czech Republic by fall. I won won also my quarterfinal versus the 3times world and 4times european champion Lise Golliot-Legrand from France (my first win ever versus Lise), but lost my halffinal 30 minutes later versus Lili Meng (1.WC'01,2.WC'99) from China.
I made a big mistake in the clinch in my bronce medal match versus Natalia Ivanova (a former russian wrestler who wrestles for Tatschikistan now) and lost by points after being nearly pinned by a headlock.

Our Brigitte Wagner won gold in the 48kg-category and earned the second olympic spot for Germany.
Christine Nordhagen, the 6times world champion from Canada won gold in the 72kg-category.
Christina Oertli lost in her pool versus the surprising winner of the 55kg-category from Korea.
